UGANDA GUIDE RELIEF FUND
Thank you for your help
HERBERT BYARUHANGA
MANAGING DIRECTOR

Thank you for joining an ongoing effort to help protect the Mountain Gorilla and all wildlife of Uganda by supporting local communities that surround their important habitat.
Bird Uganda Safaris is integrally involved in guide training and is making an appeal for donations during the COVID-19 pandemic to continue support for local guides and porters in the region. Porters and guides are out of work due to lack of tourism from the global pandemic. Herbert has been personally delivering funds received through donations and he is working with community leaders to dispense them. The support will be focused on the local guides and the porters around the primate National Parks. The areas of our focus will be Ruhijja, Buhoma, Kitahurira, Nkuringo, and Mgahinga. To ensure that the targeted group gets an equal share, each person will get 10Kg of maize flour, 6 kg of beans, and a bar of soap. This will be done on a monthly basis as long as donations continue and the need is there.
Naturalist Journeys, LLC is a natural history and birding tour company with a strong commitment to conservation. We regularly book two tours a year to Uganda, working with Mr. Herbert Byaruhanga of Bird Uganda Safaris. We are most impressed by his work with guide training and we have offered to support his efforts to bring some funds into the small communities that surround the Mountain Gorilla habitat at Bwindi and elsewhere.
Because wire funds are often higher than the donation amount, an intermediate was sought to collect funds and send over in batches. Because we do business with Bird Uganda Safaris, we know them and trust them and are willing to send your donation, combined with others, to them via wire transfer. We transfer from our business account at Wells Fargo and will keep careful records of all donations, taking no percentage for any services to deliver. The wire fees will be covered by Naturalist Journeys so your donation holds its value. Naturalist Journeys is only involved to help you transfer your project-designated funds, we are not a registered charitable organization.
Payment by check is preferred. Checks should be made out to Naturalist Journeys, LLC, and in the note line below, you can indicate Uganda Guide Project. The address is below. For payment by credit card (we can send you a secure link, list amount, your email, your billing address, email) we do not charge for time, but ask that you please add 3% to your total to offset fees.
Please email us that a donation is on the way so we can alert Herbert, and also look for it to arrive. Please make sure to include your email when sending so that we may notify you when received, when the wire was sent, and then you can also expect a confirmation from Herbert Byaruhanga.
Being able to work with tourists has allowed so many locals to better their lives, pay school fees for their children, and these people all become ambassadors within their culture to keep wildlife safe. Let’s help them through this difficult time.
